Windows 11 Pro Activation Using Command Line (Educational Guide)
This educational guide explains how Windows 11 licensing components can be managed using the Command Prompt. It is designed for IT students, technicians, and users learning proper troubleshooting procedures. All steps emphasize using genuine and legally licensed Microsoft software.
Windows 11 Pro Activation Using Command Line (Educational Guide)
1. Opening Command Prompt as Administrator
• Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog.
• Type cmd.exe.
• Press CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER to launch Command Prompt with administrator privileges.
• When asked for confirmation, click Yes.
• You should now see the elevated Command Prompt window.
2. License Reset Commands
These commands reset or clear Windows license information. Useful for troubleshooting by system administrators.
slmgr.vbs /upk
(Wait for confirmation and click OK)
slmgr.vbs /cpky
(Click OK)
slmgr.vbs /ckms
(Click OK again)
3. Checking Upgrade Eligibility
To check if your system can be upgraded to Windows 11 Pro, enter:
DISM /online /Get-TargetEditions
If Professional appears in the list, your Windows edition supports upgrading.
4. Running the Pro Upgrade Installer
Use the following commands to prepare Windows services and trigger the edition upgrade:
sc config LicenseManager start= auto & net start LicenseManager
sc config wuauserv start= auto & net start wuauserv
changepk.exe /productkey VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T
exit
Your system will begin processing the upgrade. A progress window will appear. Once finished—regardless of any error message—restart the PC. During reboot, Windows applies the Pro edition updates. After restarting, go to Settings → System → About to confirm the new edition.
5. Activation Notes
After upgrading, Windows may still show as Not Activated. Activation requires a valid, legally obtained Windows 11 Pro product key.
To activate:
slmgr /ipk YOUR-LEGITIMATE-PRODUCT-KEY
slmgr /ato
Replace YOUR-LEGITIMATE-PRODUCT-KEY with a product key purchased from Microsoft or an authorized reseller.
Important Reminder
Unauthorized activation tools, non-genuine product keys, and unverified KMS servers violate Microsoft’s licensing policies and may expose your system to security risks. Always ensure your Windows license is legitimate, especially if this guide will be shared publicly.
